Native reserve's auto thieves driving police to distraction

And before the Chevy disappeared, it too was racing along Highway 20, back in the direction of the Six Nations territory, where both young men lived.

The twin thefts were a sign of the times. On and around Canada's most populous native reserve, the Six Nations of the Grand River, car theft has the hallmarks of a small industry, with stolen vehicles being dumped in quantities that can only be described as startling.

In 2004 to 2006, more than 1,200 vehicles with an estimated value of $33-million, were hauled away from the reserve. In 2007, at least 578 were recovered. This year's tally so far exceeds 80.

And because the 18,000-hectare reserve - an hour's drive west of Toronto and home to the protagonists in the long-running Caledonia land-claim tussle - is so thickly forested, the real numbers are probably higher still.

GET YOUR POPCORN READY: Lions on Terrell Owens: 'He's a beast'

Freak.

The words are but two of the ways the Lions described Terrell Owens as they prepared to face the Dallas Cowboys talented but often turbulent receiver today at Ford Field.

But heres another way to describe Owens this season: the NFLs leading receiver in yardage.

And maybe even one more: understated excellence.

As the Cowboys have rolled to an 11-1 record and Owens has steadily marched toward a career year at age 34, the season has lacked the usual T.O. tabloid-style drama. No fighting with teammates, no spitting at cornerbacks, no accidental overdoses.

Just T.O. showcasing his skill, torching defenses and making good on the $25-million promise he made last year to Dallas fans when he told them to get your popcorn ready, because it's going to be a show."

It certainly has been that this year.

College Board Sues Test-Prep Company

The lawsuit, alleging copyright infringement, could bring attention to the burgeoning test-prep industry, which some critics contend gives well-off students an unfair advantage on entrance exams.

"We are outraged by the deceptive and unlawful tactics, knowingly practiced by KDCP," said Edna Johnson, senior vice president of the College Board, a not-for-profit membership group of high schools, colleges and educational groups.

"Most distressing to us is that students and their parents put their faith in this expensive prep process that was ultimately based on stealing the College Board's work product," she said.

Karen Dillard said the College Board approached her four months ago about questions she had distributed after buying them from the organization, thinking she could copy them for educational purposes.

Robbie Keane joins the legends after 100th goal

In the Tottenham dressing room I pinned up a motto: "The Team is the Star". If any player sums up that philosophy, it’s Robbie Keane. Normally it’s not the best combination to have a striker as your skipper. Robbie is different. He’ll do any job a manager asks and seeks togetherness with teammates socially as well as on the pitch. Character-wise, if you had 11 Robbie Keanes on your side, you’d have a chance of winning any game.

Robbie doesn’t play the game for personal accolades but deserves any which come his way, and yesterday he reached 100 against Sunderland. Only two other players in the past 30 years have reached a century. Their identities, Teddy Sheringham and Glenn Hoddle, show how special it is. At Spurs, Robbie is appreciated, the fans regularly voting him player of the year, but I wonder whether in the country he gets the recognition he deserves.

Cram Session: Bumps, bruises and rumors

We don't expect him to miss another game for a while (knock on wood).

Charlotte Bobcats -- Emeka Okafor is starting to pick up his play of late and seems to be regaining some of the Fantasy appeal he lost when Nazr Mohammed joined the team. He's averaging 17.8 ppg and 11.6 rpg over his last five games with double-doubles in four straight contests going into the week. He's also averaging 2.0 bpg in that span. Meanwhile, Mohammed has come back down to earth, averaging just 8.4 ppg and 6.0 rpg over those five games. He's still useful as a low-end No. 2 Fantasy center, though.

Chicago Bulls -- The Bulls are as banged up as they've been all season, with injuries to Luol Deng (Achilles'), Ben Gordon (wrist), Chris Duhon (knee) and Joe Smith (knee). Deng is out for 1-3 weeks, Gordon is day-to-day, Duhon is "shutting it down" for a few games and Smith is able to play but he had fluid drained from his right knee for the third time this season, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Hearne: Cops and TV newsies to dodge balls for charity

Me neither, although I may be in the minority where the news media are concerned. Some radio and TV types have challenged the Kansas City Police Department to a dodge ball game. Proceeds from the so-called “News vs. Blues” charity throwdown will benefit the KCPD Care Team.

“Under any other circumstances, hitting a cop with anything is a felony,” says KCTV news anchor Dana Wright. “It will be a blast! Proceeds to the injured officer fund.”

Dodge ball is the game we once played before blatant violence between children fell out of fashion.

The clash goes down Saturday at the KCPD Regional Training Academy, and darn the luck the officers won't be in uniform, meaning the newsies won't be able to take aim at tempting targets like Tasers and ticket pads.

You want smack talk? Wright has it: “The officers, especially the tactical guys, might be bigger than we are, but they throw like a bunch of girls.

Belichick can't bear to see perfect season tick away for Patriots

GLENDALE, Ariz. (AP) -A single second showed on the clock - a tick away from a Giant upset.

Before Eli Manning could take a final knee to seal New York's 17-14 upset victory Sunday night, Patriots coach Bill Belichick ran onto the field for a quick handshake with Giants coach Tom Coughlin and made a beeline for the locker room.

The so-called genius coach with the three Super Bowl rings appeared little more than a poor sport.

"I mean, look, they played well," Belichick said. "They made some plays. We made some plays. In the end, they made a couple more than we did."

They sure did, and that should alarm Belichick. He put together perhaps the best team the NFL has seen in a long time, setting records galore on offense with Tom Brady and Randy Moss.

Wacky World: Fancy Another Pie, Fatty?

We've all been there, it's a Saturday afternoon and your favourite team are on TV. You've parked yourself on the couch and convinced yourself not to move for anything. Nuclear war imminent? Who cares, it's about to kick off! No female within 100 yards? Check! Crate of cold beers? Check! Half time snack? ......Doh! But now there is no need to worry because home delivery pies from 'Simple Simon' have come to your rescue!

These pies can be ordered online , over the phone, by fax and probably even by smoke signal (although don't quote us on that one). These delicious, nutritious (probably) and generously sized pies are then delivered to your door just in time for you to mute whichever mindless pundit is trying to explain the new version of the offside rule. Lovely Jubbly, so what's the catch? Well at the moment they're only available in Harvey Nichols so you'll probably have to re-mortgage the house to afford one.
