Obama stays close in race as Republican rivals lag

Does he presume Iraq was invaded so he could be elected in 2008? When will it stop, and someone nail him with tough questions? As I read through Chang's Audacity of Race I looked back three months and recalled Obama trailing Hillary in the black vote. How is it he now consistently wins 80 % of the Black vote no matter where he goes? What changed in just 12 weeks?

In his Audacity of Race, Chang observes how Obama relies on race in his appeal to the general public; how he uses his ostensible race to give meaning to the biographic race at the heart of his Hero rhetoric. But I want to know what happened specifically with the black vote?

What has Obama promised black voters to induce them to solidly vote in his favor? I haven't heard of any policies or solutions he has promoted to deal with black problems.

Manufacturing lowest in nearly 5 years

The Institute for Supply Management's (ISM) manufacturing index fell to 48.3 from 50.7 in January. Economists were expecting a reading of 48, according to a consensus compiled by Briefing.com.

The tipping point for the index is 50, with a reading above that reflecting growth in the sector. A reading below 50 represents a decline in manufacturing.

The overall reading of the index is the weakest since April 2003, and it also marks the seventh of the past eight months that the index has registered a decline from the previous month.

"This was largely expected, but still not a good sign for the manufacturing sector," said Wachovia economist Adam York.

"It's just one more sign that there's economic weakness in the economy," added York, who believes that this report will give the Federal Reserve further incentive to cut rates at a meeting later this month.

Doctor accused of hastening death for patient's organs

The sensationalism of this case in the media will unfortunately result in a decrease in organ donation. This, in turn, will deprive patients waiting for life-saving organ transplantation their opportunity for life," said Goran Klintmalm, the president of the American Society of Transplant Surgeons.

"If Dr. Roozrokh is guilty, it would represent a gross aberration in the organ donation process, not the gift of life we are all trying to provide."

At least one former patient has spoken out in support of Roozrokh.

"He performed surgery on me and literally saved my life," Joe Quiroz told CNN-affiliate KCOY in an August interview. "I have known Dr. Roozrokh to be a man of great, great compassion."

The preliminary hearing continues this week.

Hawks GM Tallon plans to make trades

Hendry has two assists with 14 penalty minutes and is a plus-4 in 20 games.

"He's earned a job here as far as I'm concerned," coach Denis Savard said. "He's a good skater. He recovers, he's strong and he keeps his game simple."

Hendry's steady play has earned him the respect of teammates.

"He came in here and played his first game this year," said Sopel, who is expected to miss the next two weeks with a broken bone in his left wrist. "When you get that opportunity you have to take advantage of it, and he's done that."

Ruutu rumblingsTuomo Ruutu's goal-less streak reached 32 games Sunday. The winger hasn't scored since Dec. 12 and has six goals in 60 games this season.

"It's shocking that he hasn't scored, because he goes to the net," Savard said.
