Busy air traffic controllers keep eyes on skies

It happened too quickly to stop but slowly enough for onlookers to watch. Two Cessna planes collided in mid-flight while approaching Corona (Calif.) Municipal Airport on Jan. 20 as dozens of observers watched helplessly. Within a matter of seconds, five people were dead, including one on the ground. It’s a terrifying thought — your plane crashing into another in mid-flight — but last month’s mid-air collision in Corona makes clear the real possibilities of such accidents occuring. In fact, there has been an average of 30 mid-air collisions each year in the U.S. since 1978, resulting in an average of 75 deaths per year, according to Defense Safety Oversight Council’s Web site, www.seeandavoid.org. According to the site, there are more than 450 near mid-air collisions reported each year.

Valley public radio station leaders threaten to cut services

Home values advanced on a curve never before seen. This led to market speculation which caused demand to go up much higher than should have. Another factor was the subprime mortgages being sold as securities. Some subprime borrowers should have never qualified for loans. Easy mortgages also caused home values to rise because of higher demand. Rising home values led to home equity loans which led to excessive spending. Now comes the bill for all the partying. Everybody is talking recession, we will be lucky to avoid an all out depression. Home values are starting to fall with no end in sight. People will not start buying until home values hit bottom. This will cause buyers to have the attitude, I will wait until the price comes down more. I have already heard this line and heard it from more than one person.

Rock: no new bidders

It is just a festering mass of UK sub-prime.

The banking community has realised this. Branson is just enjoying posing as the white knight trying to rescue a British business. He's probably trying to work out what sort of bid he can make which he can be sure Brown WONT accept.

Transformers (Two-Disc Special Edition)

"From director Michael Bay and executive producer Steven Spielberg comes a thrilling battle between the Autobots and the Decepticons. When their epic struggle comes to Earth, all that stands between the evil Decepticons and ultimate power is a clue held by Sam Witwicky (Shia LaBeouf)." "Transformers (Two-Disc Special Edition)" is rated PG-13. The Movie: I've been a fan of Transformers as long as they've been around. I bought the original G1 toys. I read all the Marvel Comics. I watched the cartoons. I saw the animated movie. I bought the soundtrack. I have "The Touch." So it was with a mixture of eager anticipation and dread that I awaited the live action "Transformers" movie. I was glad to hear that Steven Spielberg was involved, but I was a bit worried about Michael Bay's storytelling abilities.

Blue-eyed son set to farewell SCG

There are times when you think, 'Gee, we could have done with him at NSW', but your brief in cricket administration is to give players the best chance to represent Australia."

Gilchrist was in the Australian one-day side within three years of going to Perth. Back in Sydney, he would have spent most of that time playing second fiddle to Emery, whose Test came in 1994. Bernard is now Australian manager and will be with Gilchrist in the SCG dressing room today.

"It's been a privilege to see him [become] the kind of player and man he is now. There are some very good qualities there."

Gilchrist's first NSW match was forgettable. While McGrath stormed onto the first-class scene with 5-79 off 30 overs, and an 18-year-old Ponting cracked 125, Gilchrist batted at No.7 and made 16 before being trapped lbw by Tasmanian Shaun Young.
